Random words for charades and word games

A ready list of random words for any describe-it game — charades, Alias, Taboo, "say it another way". Pick a theme, hit shuffle and play: copy the list into your notes, paste it into a chat, or print it and cut it into slips.

Why write them on paper?TheHat deals these same words for you — it draws the word, keeps score and runs the timer. A room fills from one link in under a minute, from a phone, with nothing to install.

How to use it

  1. 1. Pick a themeFrom everyday nouns to films, jobs and abstractions — the theme sets the difficulty far more than the timer does.
  2. 2. ShuffleEvery press deals a new set, with no repeats inside one list.
  3. 3. Play it your wayCopy it into your notes and reveal one at a time, paste it into a chat, or print it and cut it into slips.

The rules in three lines

  • One player describes the word, their team guesses, and a timer runs the whole thing.
  • You may not say the word, use words from the same root, or mime it.
  • Every correct word scores for the team. Play a few rounds; highest total wins.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Completely. No sign-up and no limit on how many times you can shuffle.

What is the difference between charades and Alias?

In Alias you describe the word out loud; in charades you mime it and say nothing. The words suit both — only what you are allowed to use changes.

How many words does a game need?

Reckon on 10–15 per turn. A hundred is comfortable for six people and three rounds.

Can I print it?

Yes — the print button opens the list in a printable form, large type and nothing else on the page.

Are there words in other languages?

Yes. The word language switches separately from the page language — the sets are written in English and Russian.
